The Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 offers more than just an upgrade from the Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360. Equipped with Intel’s latest Core Ultra 200V, also known as the “Lunar Lake” CPU, this 2-in-1 convertible from Samsung is one of the newest entrants in the competitive AI-powered laptop market. It aims to simplify tasks with its AI-driven features and seamless integration with other Samsung devices. As a Lunar Lake system, it promises better performance along with improved energy efficiency.

I had a brief hands-on experience with the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 at IFA 2024 and walked away with mostly favorable impressions. While I didn’t have the opportunity to explore its AI capabilities in detail, I found the laptop’s design to be as refined as previous models. It maintains a slim, lightweight build while feeling durable. The 2,880×1,800 OLED display is visually impressive, and its 16-inch form factor offers a spacious and comfortable keyboard layout.

A full review of the Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360, complete with scores, is coming soon. In the meantime, here are my initial impressions of Samsung’s first major Lunar Lake laptop.

In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 is almost indistinguishable from its predecessor. This sleek and lightweight 2-in-1 is designed for easy portability, making it convenient to carry around. Despite its thin profile, the laptop’s aluminum chassis feels solid and exhibits little to no flex. It’s a sophisticated device with a design that blends seamlessly into both professional and outdoor settings.

The laptop offers a reasonable selection of ports, including two USB-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port that supports 8K at 60Hz and 5K at 120Hz, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a single USB-A port. This is consistent with other Samsung laptops, which is a plus — especially for users like me who still appreciate having at least one USB-A port for older devices.

As a 2-in-1 convertible, the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 functions as both a laptop and a tablet. The device’s hinge is smooth yet sturdy, making it easy to fold. While even the best 2-in-1 laptops tend to feel awkward in tablet mode, Samsung’s model is unlikely to change my opinion. It’s simply too large and heavy to replace the top-tier tablets on the market. However, the touchscreen is quite responsive, offering a practical tablet experience if needed in a pinch.

Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge, the Book 5 Pro 360 includes a full keyboard, complete with a number pad for users who need it. Based on my brief experience with this laptop, I’m confident I’ll enjoy typing on its spacious keyboard and using gestures on the generously sized trackpad. The keys are as responsive and springy as I’ve come to expect from Samsung’s laptops.

While I’ll need more hands-on (or eyes-on) time to fully evaluate the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360’s OLED display, my initial impressions are positive. Samsung claims the display can reach up to 400 nits of brightness in SDR and up to 500 nits in HDR. To my eyes, the display appeared sufficiently bright, even under the intense lighting at Samsung’s IFA booth. The OLED screen seems to do an excellent job of producing deep blacks and vibrant whites. We’ll have a clearer idea of its full capabilities once we perform our own in-house testing.

SAMSUNG GALAXY BOOK 5 PRO 360 HANDS-ON REVIEW: PERFORMANCE

The Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 is among the first laptops to feature Intel’s Lunar Lake processors, which are expected to provide outstanding performance and battery life, at least according to both Intel and Samsung.

Intel touts this as the most power-efficient x86 processor to date. Laptops equipped with Lunar Lake are said to offer “exceptional performance” along with “breakthrough” power efficiency for x86 architecture, according to Intel. Additionally, the company claims that Lunar Lake ensures “no compromise application compatibility,” a clear dig at Qualcomm’s Arm-based Snapdragon X chips, which sometimes struggle with compatibility for certain x86-based applications.

Intel also reports that Lunar Lake uses 50% less power than its predecessor, the Meteor Lake chip. It supports up to 120 total platform TOPS (trillion operations per second) distributed across the CPU, GPU, and NPU. Intel asserts that Lunar Lake’s Xe2 integrated GPU offers up to 31% faster gaming performance compared to Meteor Lake.

To truly assess the Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360’s capabilities in terms of performance and battery life, we’ll need to put it through our rigorous benchmark tests, especially when comparing it to laptops powered by Qualcomm and Apple silicon. Time will tell if Lunar Lake lives up to Intel’s ambitious claims.

The Samsung Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 has the potential to be another standout laptop from Samsung. It retains the sleek and durable design I’ve come to appreciate, paired with a vibrant OLED display, ample ports, and a spacious keyboard.

While these features are impressive on their own, the real test will be whether this laptop can match the performance and battery life of its competitors. If it succeeds, the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 and other Lunar Lake devices might provide Intel with the competitive boost it needs to challenge Qualcomm and Apple.
